Fifty-Two Reasons

Verbal political swashbuckling seems to be at a all-time high as fiery citizens armed with purposeful keystrokes battle to persuade public opinion. In the past month, I’ve been extremely disappointed with social media contributors who are the most vocal, yet least armed with proper perspective, fact, and basic constitutional understanding.


As society advances and creates modern wonders that alter our interaction within our environment and each other, citizenry tends to devalue, and sometimes completely disregard, the platform which enabled that greatness to thrive. In essence, many of us are losing, and some have never gained, what I coin our foundational perspective. That foundational perspective is summarized within The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States. It is the heart, soul, and reasoning as to why our country exists. Those fifty-two words set the stage for what would become a nation beyond anyone’s hopes and dreams:

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Generalizations, ambiguous declarations, and sensationalized accusations are becoming ever more pervasive within public political discourse. This is nothing new. What makes it especially dangerous today is a growing population of uneducated citizens, lacking a constitutional backbone, whom are easily persuaded by cultural fads, gimmickry, power, and feel good stump speeches.


Those of us with foundational perspective must speak-up, defend, and right the inaccuracies, thwart the distractions, and be vocally courageous without fear of falling victim to the court of public opinion. Within such a great culture with so many wondrous advances, I’m awe-struck at the fallacies so many fall victim while the majority keep quiet within the web of their loathsome politically correct fears.

Next time you find yourself hesitating to chime in, don’t! Speak-up while respecting the foundation that gave you the chance to make yourself heard.
